What is infertility? What are the causes of infertility?

Infertility is a condition of not being able to conceive even though a couple has unprotected sexual intercourse regularly for about 1 year. It usually happens to women more than 40 years old because a couple takes much longer time than before to get ready to have babies. This means that several couples have not yet been ready to conceive at their suitable ages. The factors affecting fertility are including:

  • Women’s age: Women are more likely to have infertility when they are 35 years old or over. As ovarian performance has decreased a lot in producing eggs due to aging. However, it may happen in some cases depending on physical conditions of each person.
  • Women’s health: The environmental effects cause a huge impact on the body more than you think. Especially, the toxic pollutions nowadays that are much higher than they were in the former times can weaken women’s health or lead to ovarian insufficiency from prolonged toxin or impurity exposure.
  • Sperm quality: Apart from women’s health, men may have problems about their sperm quality as well. These issues can occur to men at every age. The common causes are long-term stress, insufficient sleep, alcohol use, and smoking. When the sperm is not healthy enough, it will not be able to fertilize with woman’s egg.

What are the signs of infertility in men and women?

After realizing the causes of infertility that mentioned above, how do you know if you are facing fertility problems? Are there any signs causing you to see a specialized doctor as soon as possible? In order to get the right and appropriate medical advice, to treat infertility, and to increase the chance of pregnancy. The signs of infertility in men and women are as follows:

Signs of infertility in women

  • Irregular periods
  • Abdominal pain during sex
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding or pelvic infection
  • Have a history of pelvic operation
  • Have a history of miscarriage
  • Have a history of sexually transmitted disease, such as gonorrhea

Signs of infertility in men

  • Genital issues, such as erectile dysfunction, ejaculation problem
  • Have a history of epididymo-orchitis
  • Have a history of sexually transmitted disease, such as gonorrhea

What are the popular technologies of infertility treatment nowadays?

There are technologies have been accepted and gaining a lot of popularity. Some procedures may not be available at every hospital and clinic. Therefore, the demand of infertility treatment at a specialized hospital or clinic has risen greatly. Because different patients need different procedures regarding their physical conditions. The popular technologies of infertility treatment nowadays are as follows:

IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization), there are 2 main procedures as below:

  • IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization): It is a technique that the perfect female’s eggs and male’s sperm will be selected for fertilization. Then transfer the fertilized egg to the uterine cavity to allow pregnancy.
  • ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection): It is a modern form of IVF but the best sperm will be selected using a microscope and will be sent through a small needle to female’s egg to allow the fertilization directly. Ater that, the fertilized egg will be cultured in laboratory until it develops to an embryo. When the embryo is ready at the suitable stage, it will be transferred to the uterine cavity for the growth inside mother’s womb.
  • IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination): This treatment is performed by injecting semen that has been checked for the strongest sperm directly to female’s uterine cavity during ovulation period. Using a tiny plastic catheter to transport sperm through the cervix and to allow the sperm approach female’s egg then fertilize. The procedure offers a greater chance of pregnancy than natural fertilization.
  • PESA/TESE, Sperm Retrieval Procedure: Suitable for male with severe sperm problems, e.g., no sperm, sterile, no sperm found when ejaculating due to blocked vas deferens, very low sperm production or severe poor sperm quality leading to infertility. The process is to insert a needle through the skin of testicles to aspirate the sperm or to make an incision to remove a small portion of testicular tissue then find the sperm by microscopy. Next, the sperm will be taken to the further steps of ICSI program.
  • Egg Freezing: It is another way to prepare for having babies. The technique can maintain egg quality of female and store the qualified eggs for the future needs. At the most suitable age, the eggs are extracted out of the ovaries and are frozen with the right temperature. Whenever is needed for pregnancy, these eggs will be taken to fertilize with male’s sperm.

Apart from the above treatment procedures, there are other types of infertility treatment which can be suitable for physical conditions and preference of each patient. Therefore, we suggest you consulting with a specialized doctor in order to determine the treatment that can fit you best.

Frequent drinking and hangovers increase the risk of infertility

Frequent drinking and hangovers increase the risk of infertility

Frequent drinking and hangovers increase the risk of infertility

Frequent parties and hangovers can directly and indirectly affect your health, especially for those who are already planning to have children. This makes it even more difficult to have children!

Because frequent and large amounts of alcoholic beverages cause the hormones in the body to function abnormally.

What are the effects of drinking alcohol and hangovers?

In men > Abnormal testosterone production results in the body producing less sperm, poor quality sperm, and reduced fertilization ability.

In women > Abnormalities in the pituitary glands hormone system and hormones that control ovarian function result in no ovulation, abnormal uterine lining, and increased chances of premature birth or miscarriage.

It also reduces the absorption of vitamins and minerals, increasing the risk of malnutrition such as magnesium and potassium. It also comes with negative effects from a “hangover” such as insufficient sleep, restless sleep, headaches, dizziness, vomiting, dehydration, fatigue, etc. These are indirect negative effects that affect the body.

Therefore, drinking excessive amounts of liquor, beer, wine, or other alcoholic beverages is a cause of infertility and reduces the chances of having children by up to 50%.

If anyone is planning a pregnancy and still has problems controlling their alcohol consumption, you may need to consider consulting a mental health professional or medical professional to find a treatment plan.

Prime Fertility Center does not only provide infertility treatment. What Prime Fertility Center aims for and continuously develops is to provide services to customers with care, consultation, care, and concern for all your feelings, like family members. When preparing to have a baby, should you eat more animal protein or plant protein?

When preparing to have a baby, should you eat more animal protein or plant protein?

“Protein” is important for people of all ages, and they will receive different benefits. It must be consumed in different amounts at different ages. Protein is easily found in animal products, such as meat, milk, eggs, and processed foods such as butter and cheese.

But for parents who want to start taking care of themselves to avoid infertility, they can begin by avoiding high-fat foods and trans fats, such as margarine, fried foods, and snacks, to control blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of diabetes.

So how should people who want to have children eat protein?

If you are preparing to have children, you should eat 1-1.5 grams of protein per body weight/day. Proteins that should be eaten include fish, eggs, chicken, beef, pork, etc.

Eating protein from animals should be done in moderation. Although the nutritional value of animal protein is high, fat, cholesterol, and the risk of various dangerous diseases are also increased.

Plant protein is low in saturated fat, has no cholesterol, is high in fiber, and has fewer calories than animal protein. They can be eaten together, but it is recommended to avoid plant proteins that have effects similar to female hormones, such as soybeans and processed soybean proteins because they can affect the uterus.

Eating protein with iron will help strengthen the uterus and also help produce quality eggs. In addition, eating green vegetables to increase folate and vitamin B helps accelerate ovulation, resulting in a good chance of pregnancy in the future.

Prime Fertility Center does not only provide infertility treatment. What Prime Fertility Center aims for and continuously develops is to provide services to customers with care, consultation, care, and concern for all your feelings, like family members. Because we understand the feelings, pressure, and stress of those who cannot successfully conceive, the clinic intends to provide warmth and full convenience to those who receive services, with determination and care from a team of expert doctors, embryologists, and a team with extensive experience in providing comprehensive care and consultation.
