How pregnant women live with cats
Let’s continue from the previous article. Previously, we have presented the disease that can occur to pregnant mothers when living with cats. (You can go back and read at: Cat and Pregnant Woman: Must read this if you have cat!) Today we have some advice for pregnant mothers about living together with pets.
- Avoid direct contact with cat’s stool: Leave it to someone else in the house to clean the cat litter tray. Or if it is necessary to clean it yourself, please wear gloves and a mask properly while cleaning. And wash your hands or take a shower immediately after cleaning.
- Wash your hands frequently after touching cat: Do not rub your eyes or put food in your mouth if you have not washed your hands.
- Avoid drinking the water that is not clean
- Avoid eating raw food or half-cooked food
- If gardening is necessary or expose with cat sand, please avoid direct contact. Because there may be protozoan Toxoplasma gondii contamination.
- Set up an area for the cat to stay and do not allow the cat to sleep on the bed during pregnancy.
- Always keep your home clean including cleaning the cat’s items such as litter boxes, toys, or food trays with heat because heat can be used to destroy protozoan eggs.
Just like this, mothers can live together with pets without risking disease that affects pregnancy.
